Draft Course Description For Course Description for YSU Metro To Be Offered At the YBI
Introduction To Investing In Private Companies
For years, investors in private companies have been revered as an elite group of brilliant high-risk takers. This single session is intended to provide an introductory overview of private investing by separating the fact from the fiction. Yes, there undoubtedly IS risk. However with proper precautions, investing in private companies can be entertaining, great for area economic development, and sometimes even profitable!
This course provides a discussion on how to identify an opportunity, dealing with entrepreneurs, understanding alternate deal structures, understanding corporate governance, tax consequences, the role and relationship with banks, securities compliance, and some examples of deals that worked and didn’t work.
This course is offered through the cooperation of the School of Graduate Studies and Research at YSU and the Youngstown Business Incubator.
A Practicum For Investing In Private Companies
Ever curious about how investors evaluate ideas from entrepreneurs, start-ups and similar investments? YSU and the Youngstown Business Incubator, have arranged for interested individuals to selectively view the presentation and evaluation of private investment opportunities to the Garden Club Angels of Youngstown (www.gardenclubangels.com). This practicum is exclusively for educational purposes only. All attendees who are not otherwise exempt, will be required to enroll in this continuing course.
